If you were stranded on an island....
... and all you had was a Bible, a CD player, and 5 Christian CD's... what would they be?Obviously, Petra CD's will make everyone here's list... but lets not limit this to Petra. That being said.... my five are: 1) Shake 2- Soul Survivor by Ken Tamplin 3) On Fire by Petra 4) To Hell with the Devil b...

The infuence of Petra
This is really silly, but I thought it was cool! I just finished changing the strings on my Yellow Ibanez and was sitting on my couch jamming a little unplugged. I happened to glance over at the TV (which was off) and saw my reflection. I was taken back for a second, because the bearded guy in the T...

Re: Johns Petra 13 years ago.
Wait a minute! You probably missed the last leg of the Classic Petra Tour were all Bob played was a Telecaster last year. You obviously don't know a thing about guitars. Nothing wrong with a Tele, just listen to John 5 and see what a Tele can do. Teles have the basic design that made solid body gui...

Re: David Lichens -vs- Pete Orta
You might think I'm crazy, but stuff like Chameleon and Angel of Light was borderline progressive, IMO. Creed also comes to mind, but that might be due to the awesome John Lawry keyboard in the intro.brent wrote:I would love to hear Bob write prog rock.

Re: David Lichens -vs- Pete Orta
Petra was always more innovative than the stuff in that era. If they'd have gone in a Dream Theater type direction...

Re: Johns Petra 13 years ago.
John was great, and I agree with Brent, but.. Pete Orta... what are you doing?!?!?!? CC Deville played Poison's stuff better drunk and high in the 80s on stage. Is he playing a Telecaster?!?!? For PETRA!!! Wouldn't he be more suited to go with a HSS Strat or a Les Paul? Intersting choice of instumen...

Re: David Lichens -vs- Pete Orta
I didn't see them live then, but from the videos I've seen I'd agree that Lichens was the better player. I don't know the details of what happened, but I knid of feel bad for the guy. He was in the band for like, a minute!

Re: More Petra?
I will be into this. Even for just one song. If it is successful.... For those mourning the status of Classic Petra: There have to be some GXV fans out there, but let's be honest with ourselves. John Schlitt has been the voice of Petra for twice as long as Greg was. The Classic Line-up was together ...

Re: Debunking Petra Myths
I've liked Stryper as a rock band since the 80's, but never in my mind or heart did I see them as "a Christian Rock Band" until they came back in about 2004 and I went and heard them play and Mike gave his testimony. I saw them for the first time in Beaumont, Tx on "The Soldiers Under Command Tour"...

Re: Debunking Petra Myths
I just watched the clip... and I feel much dumber having watched it (a typical response to watching Stryper interviews)! Against the law was a very interesting time for them... their last full studio disc for decades... far a reason. That strenghthens my point, though: Without the Christian market, ...

Re: Debunking Petra Myths
This is not about Petra, but... I heard Stryper would take the furniture in their hotel rooms apart and put it back together rather than go out to party on the Soldiers Under Command tour. Don't know if that's true or not. I remember when I was a kid there were all kings of crazy rumors surrounding...

I actually liked Reborn as well. They seem like Michael Sweet solo records, though. Very much like Truth.drake78 wrote:"I just wish they would put out better quality music than what they are now."
Have you heard Murder By Pride perchance? Pretty sweet record in my opinion.
