Re: Captured In Time & Space DVD

Louie told me he has masters from the previous night's shows, which he thought were better, but they have board mixes from FOH. They used the previous shows as tech rehearsals. If I remember correctly, those are the 3/4" video tapes, right? Louie better see about making a digital archive of that st...

Re: Remastered albums

I’d love to hear someone review the quality when they get their copies. Yes, a critical analysis of the sound quality versus the original CDs would be nice to read. I honestly don't plan on buying these to do my own comparison unless I'm somehow convinced that the "remasters" will really blow my so...

Re: Captured In Time & Space DVD

I bought the DVD as soon as it was available, and, yes, it's very obviously taken from a VHS recording as evidenced by some instances of video dropout and one or two creases. I imagine it's the best they had at the time as there can't have been many good quality copies of the VHS tape still around, ...

Re: Interesting stuff in Bob Hartman's garage sale

That Warmoth BHG Custom S is pretty cool.

Cool price, too: $1475, which is actually not that expensive for a custom made guitar.

Re: Remastered albums

U2's The Unforgettable Fire was a night-and-day difference. The other albums like War , The Joshua Tree , and particularly Achtung Baby saw only slight improvements at best. The Edge said that some of the albums they only allowed minimal EQ tweaking during remastering because they considered them ar...

Re: Remastered albums

I would be pleasantly surprised if these actually sound good, but my general experience is that modern remastering often ends up sounding like trash. I think the best remasters I have ever heard are the 2015 high resolution 192K releases of Van Halen's early albums, which are not so much remasters b...

Petra will be joining a travel tour to Israel/Jordan in November and they will perform a one-off show in the ancient city of Petra, so if you're swimming in € you could also go there.
Petra at Petra! That would be awesome to see. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to make such a trip.

Re: Remastered albums

I'm skeptical any time I see the word "remastered", because it is often a euphemism for "overly compressed and obnoxiously loud". If an album still sounds too loud even after you've turned down the volume, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. Other indicators of bad mastering are the bass g...

Re: Petra New Project?

When I met up with Bob Hartman early last month to pick up my custom guitar, he mentioned that they are discussing the possibility of doing a 50th anniversary concert in Indiana next year. Hoping and praying for it! Hopefully they record it and release it as an album. That can be done dirt cheap --...

Re: Petra cassettes

I'll admit, it has been many, many years since I've listened to any of my Petra CDs.

But that's only because my music collection exists as CD quality FLAC files that I listen to through my digital music player.

Re: Petra New Project?

Louie and I discussed this years ago. Pro video shoots of concerts was/is expensive. According to Louie, the only other unused concert footage they have is from the show previous to the two-day CITAS shoot and it was a dub from master. He said it was actually a better show, but it has a board mix. ...

Are we including Mark in the “Dream Team” now?
I suppose it depends on which "Dream Team" you're talking about. For me, there are two:

Greg Volz
Bob Hartman
John Slick
Mark Kelly
Louie Weaver

and

John Schlitt
Bob Hartman
John Lawry
Ronny Cates
Louie Weaver

Re: Petra New Project?

I have trouble believing there are no high-quality live recordings from the Dream Team era. Surely there are enough that they could put together a "Best of the Best" live compilation album from the hundreds of concerts they did from "Back to the Street" to "Wake Up Call".

Re: Petra New Project?

I submit an item marked CPR into evidence. Thoughts? The problem with the CPR release is that it wasn't new music, it was old music being rerecorded with a vibe that I personally found strange. Rather than just cranking out remakes of classic tunes (like the more popular and successful "Back to the...

Re: Petra New Project?

I agree with what was said earlier, that a big comeback reunion and tour is unlikely. Still, I'd love a new album even if they didn't do a single show. Getting a new album to market is cheaper than ever these days, so it's possible, and they might even make a little profit. Whatever they do, I think...
