Re: The new Petra record of 1984

What we have to remember is that the guys were too old to appeal to the young CCM audience, the young audience was into different music, the soccer moms and dads at the time were not going to have much luck selling their band to their kids. Combine all of this with the fact radio would not let Petr...

Re: The new Petra record of 1984

I'm not saying skip them, I'm saying NSD,MPTY,NOTW, then ND, BTTS, TMW, OF etc.....musically. Criticism that ND isn't "Petra" enough because it isn't as hard as BB or UP or OF....it sounds very Petra if its after NOTW......And to your point, yes you could put WUC between ND and BTTS....musically it...

Re: Greg on Coloring Song

Killing My Old Man was recorded for Come And Join Us. It even made it to the test pressing, but as has been said before was ditched by label executives (including Paul Baker) who were afraid of the song being misunderstood. Even the band's request to then record a live version with an intro speech ...

Re: Greg on Coloring Song

Bob actually talks about it in the More Power To Ya devotional on how "Killing My Old Man" was originally recorded for Come & Join Us but was dropped because of the label and was rerecorded later for NSD. I know "The Coloring Song" was originally done by the group GXV was in in the 70's.

Re: 1982 - Petra Live in Atlanta

Mountain Man. I have played Guitar in many bands, at my church and all around since 1986. That is my instrument. Greg is playing correctly and confidently, and the right chords for Angel of Light, even the minor G chord on the chorus, while singing. He is very capable, just listen to what he does o...

Re: Guitarist Discussion

While I love the solos guitar wise I really am sold on a guitarist with his rhythm chops; This is the reason why I love Bob Hartman's guitar work so much. Bob's rhythm playing is on par with most professionals out there. I will also say Bob doesn't get enough credit for his solos; most of his solos ...

Re: Guitarist Discussion

Keaggy ... His style however does not really work for me but that is a personal thing. What style? Keaggy's music is extremely diverse. It's one of the reasons he's never been a mainstay on any record label, because he would make a straight ahead rock n' roll album followed by an acoustic instrumen...

Re: Guitarist Discussion

Another great Angus quote when asked what it was like to be one of the best guitarists in the world: "I'm not even the best guitarist in AC/DC." I would agree with him on that. I really like his playing and while admitting that it is a lot harder to play his stuff than you would initially think in ...

Re: New Petra Project

They did formally retire. There were press releases, interviews, etc. They did a retirement tour and produced a DVD. They all had REAL life reasons not to continue (age, family, time, money, lack of demand, etc). According to them, they believe God told them it was time to end. If God wanted them t...

Re: What if?

As song writer what are your most beloved songs you have written? I bet there would be a few surprises in the bunch, songs that we may never taken seriously or given second thought too.

Re: Back to The Street recording dates

Maybe CPR could take a crack at it! I very much doubt they are going to do it, but it would be interesting. I guess, however, that I am finding myself among a minority in this case and that there would be much more interest in them doing other stuff. However it would somehow strengthen the message,...

Re: Back to The Street recording dates

I like the idea that they would not call themselves Petra in one form or another if Bob was not involved. We have seen enough of those "Petras" before. However, I wonder why they went for the CPR name. It is a given, before they even start, that this is never going to be a big name because it is re...

Re: Ronny Cates start date

What a great encore! Back in the day Petra always did great encores with 3-4 songs usually lasting 20 minutes long. Most artists now a days play one song encore and then they leave; the one artist that might be different is Skillet; we saw them last year here in Frisco, TX and they played 4 songs f...

Re: Ronny Cates start date

Does anyone know if Ronny joined before or after the band started laying down tracks for On Fire? I know he is credited for the album just wondered if anyone had an actual date joined. I can't remember the exact date but I know he was on the final leg of This Means War! Tour. I saw them twice on th...
