The Noise We Make: Question

Post by fcollazo » Fri Dec 17, 2010 4:13 pm

Has anybody here ever question yourselves about what the heck does an excited moaning Hindu or Pakistani woman, has to do with Christ or the Gospel?

To answer your question, no. I have not wondered that.

In relation to "The Noise We Make," you may be right. If it's not in English, it simply cannot be honest vocal worship.

I'm assuming you're asking about the intro, but I have no idea how you've determined that a) the woman is Hindu (Pakistani is not equivalent with Hindu, so that makes it even more confusing, although I'm pretty sure you're speaking to the style of the vocals) b) she is not a Christian and c) her vocal style automatically means she is a member of some Eastern religion.

Hoping you're not serious here...

I've heard this sample being used in other music before, but I don't remember where.

could it may be a Jewish woman singing? Didn't "Think Twice" have an eastern theme to it as well? I think I remember seeing Bob on the video with a turbin on his head.

I meam come on, Kevin Max put a lot of Indian Music in a few of his solo albums and no one questions it, and this dude drinks and smokes in the face of everyone. You're worried about the intro to "The Noise We Make"...........awesome song by the way 8)

Funny, I have NEVER heard that song and plan never to. If you just blot that record out of your mind and forget that it ever existed, then you will be fine.

That album should have been called, "The final nail in the wood".

Very True Brent. Are you saying you have refrained from giving Revival a spin ever? I now understand that it was not John nor Bob's choice to have John sing like a Baritone, and Bob's solos to disappear at fade out of songs and be buried in the mix. It's like they were marionetes of the producers.

Revival was a lot better than No Doubt and Double Take.

Now you have crossed the line EXE! No Doubt is landmark album with some of their best and most enduring tunes that became concert staples. Now, DT sounds more current now, for some reason the albums that did not sound like PETRA then, sound now quite updated.

Yes, I have never listened to the whole CD. I watched the pre-release DVD. That did it for me.

Far be it from me to limit a band from evolving. But this album was not an evolution in Petra. Once a band like Petra has established themselves and built a fan base doing what they best and what resonates with people, the work is done. Too much change will fail almost every time. Very few bands have had the luxury of completely changing line ups, switching genres, and coming out on top. This is not Petra playing Petra music. It is Petra playing SonicFlood music. It is a desperate attempt to stay alive.

All this CD did was make me want to pick up a shovel and throw dirt on one of my fav bands. I wrote them off then and there. When J&H came out, it was too little, too late. Inpoop's damage was done. The only positive about it was Louie getting to play what Louie likes to play, which set him up to have something to do post Petra.

By far No Doubt is the worst album Petra has ever done. They tried changing into the 90's and failed very badly. Nothing about it says Petra! Like how Brent is with Revival I am that way with No Doubt. I can't even listen to the live versions of songs they do off that album. This was the start of the death of the greatest band of all time.

To me there's not much difference between No Doubt and Wake Up Call. They are like disc 1 and disc 2 of a double album.
