My Memories of Petra

Post by jimmye4563 » Fri Nov 25, 2005 2:49 am

The first time I heard of Petra was when I saw a flyer for a concert on the wall outside the cafeteria of Great Lakes Bible College in Lansing, MI where I was attending. This was 1983--More Power To Ya tour. I literally asked, to no one in particular, "What's a Petra?" Once I heard them in concert, that was it. They been my favorite ever since. That was the only time I saw Greg X Volz as Lead Vocalist. The next time I saw Petra was after John S. joined and that was in Orlando FL at the Night of Joy at Disneyworld--1986 I think. Later that year my maternal grandfather went Home to be with Jesus in Heaven. I remember playing Grave Robber over and over; it kept me from being too sad and reminding me I will see my grandpa again. Another favorite concert moment was Beyond Belief here in South Bend at Notre Dame. I took my nephew-who was 9 at the time. I also remember the tour T-shirts with the flourescent green/pink "Beyond Belief" lettering. I also remember my ears ringing for 5 days after I heard Petra on the Wake Up Call tour at the ELCO theater in Elkhart IN. I was 4 rows from the stage ( so no wonder, right?). I introduced my wife to Petra by playing Creed for her(while we were still just dating). I finally had someone in my life I could share Petra with. I could go on and on, but, I'll end with the awesome experience we had in Ft Wayne on Nov. 12 of this year. I do thank God for Petra and their ministry. They have encouraged me and my wife. Thank you Petra and Godspeed. :D :D :D

I was also at the Disney World Concert in 1986. That was pretty awesome. They've been there a few times. Was that the time when Louie was a doing a drum solo and jumped out wearing his Mickey shirt, but the music was still going? I always thought that was very cool.

Jimmye... your post (or something like it) would work out great as a "tribute to Petra" on the Guide: http://www.guidetopetra.com/tributes.html

Post it if you like!

Hey Michael, I already have a tribute there. I wrote this to maybe have others discuss their memories. :)
