Paul Simmons pic from Black Oak days

Post by Masada » Thu Oct 02, 2003 1:45 pm

Here is a picture of Paul Simmons back in th days that he played with the secular rock group "Black Oak Arkansas". I figured you all might be interested. He's the one on the bottom at the far right.

Geocities makes it really hard (actually, mostly impossible) to link in to a graphic like that. You might be able to load it directly, though (I did):

Paul Simmons - his background

Post by String » Thu Oct 02, 2003 3:19 pm

I haven't heard too much of Paul Simmons. Does anyone have a bio on him? This is the first time I've heard of any band that he has been in....Black Oak, that is.

Duh, pays to read the thread. Oh well, I can blame it on my blondeness maybe? How about my age? How about my gender? I must be able to blame this on something!!

I got something saying "this page is not available". :P

I've heard of Black Oak Arkansas, although I'm not familiar with their music. They've been around for a long time.

Yeah, that's him. :) He toured with Black Oak Arkansas in the mid 80s. There's a good interview with him on petrarocksmyworld.com, I don't know how to post the link being the technically challenged person I am.

I don't think that is a picture of Paul from the BOA days...
especially since he was with them in the 80's.

However...

I did find these pics with the last band he was in before Petra--
The Legendary Shack Shakers.

http://www.clubcafelive.com/images/Act/ ... hakers.jpg

http://www.truthserum.org/media/phoenix ... 071803.gif

Paul doesn't look much different, does he?

Now, here's something else I noticed. The other guy in the band who plays bass is named Mark Robertson. I believe this is the same Mark Robertson from the Ragamuffin band days. In my web searches, it looks like the same guy.

This may prove to be disappointing because from what I've seen on the internet, the Shack Shakers are a very secular band. Not that all groups HAVE to be Christian, but Mark is someone who has professed in the past to be one, so this seems like an odd combination. I hope appearances are deceiving (and I'm the last one to throw stones being the chief of all sinners you know), but it seems like it would be difficult to walk the Christian walk in a band like this (from what I've seen and heard of them).

If this is the same Mark, then I pray he's sticking with the faith, and if he's not, I pray he'll return to it soon.

I could see it but that's because I'm using college campus computers (Viva Redeker Lab!!). Pablo Simmons don't look none back then like he does now. Looks like the singer from Styx actually.

Okay, I'll modify that: If the pic Masada found isn't from the 80s, it probably isn't him. He just toured with them for a short time and I don't think he played on any of their albums, so it would make sense that he wouldn't have an "official" band pic with them. The pics you found are definitely him though, RockOn. That was just before he was in Petra, so that wasn't that long ago. :)
