J&H

Post by Preacherman777 » Fri Nov 18, 2005 11:42 am

Actually, the numbers Josh posted do suggest that J&H may be outselling Revival. It may not have sold as many copies as of last May, but one must bear in mind that Revival has a two year head start on J&K. So, to be sure one would have to compare where was Revival 21 months after it was released? Were it's numbers better than 45,000 at that time? Also, if a couple more years down the road J&K still has not surpassed that 49 thousand plus mark, then we would know the truth of the matter.

I wouldn't count on it. If Petra had sufficient popularity to move albums then they wouldn't be releasing a farewell CD. I think the departure of Bob Hartman as a full-time member was a blow that Petra unfortunately never recovered from.

Well, they did do Petra Praise 2 after Bob left and that was really popular. My opinion is that God Fixation followed by Double Take left Petra in bad shape. If J&H would have been released after God Fixation(not that it could have been), we would probably not be seeing a farewell cd now. Just my opinion ...

Petra's problem was never lack of musical quality. Petra's CDs have ALWAYS been top-notch quality... at least, after the first CD or two, when they didn't really know what they were doing in the recording process. Not that Petra Petra sounds bad, 'cause I like it! The black hole that Petra fell into was a marketing snafu. God Fixation is a solid album musically, and Double Take is even better. They are not fan favorites, which means that if Petra was to go that direction, they would have to be more aggressively marketed to the fanbase they were made for. Word aggressively marketed them to... NOBODY. Without money and effort expended for advertising, the best of CDs will go unnoticed. Petra Praise 2, I've been told, actually somehow took on a life of its own, and received a lot of interest without a lot of label support, but that is DEFINITELY the exception in the music industry, not the rule.
