Nominating Petra

Post by Kirkman » Sun Jan 08, 2006 8:57 pm

Hey all, CMCentral is doing their annual Music Awards right now. I thought it would be good to nominate Petra in some way, though we need to be strategic in how we do it.

First, my problem. I can't nominate them since I have only 86 posts. (only users with 100 posts or more can nominate people). Anyone here have enough?

Second, here is the criteria: "The focus of these awards is to spotlight artistic excellence in music created by Christians. It's not meant as a popularity contest or a marker of who had the most 'success' this year, but rather who stretched the boundaries and created great art. We believe that we should be at the forefront of art, as with everything else."

Honestly, I think it's hard to argue Petra "stretched the boundaries" of rock music this year. But still, we should try to nominate them.

Here are possible categories:

* Album of the Year (award goes to the artist and producer, if different from the artist
* Song of the Year (award goes to the songwriter)
* Group/Duo/Band of the Year
* Rock/Alternative Album of the Year (award goes to artist and producer, if different from artist)
* Rock/Alternative Song of the Year (awards goes to the songwriter)
* Rock/Alternative Performance, Group/Duo/Band

For each, you have to include the song for which the person/group is being nominated.

So.... which song is the best on Farewell in terms of pushing the musical envelope? Which might have the best chance to actually compete in a contest like this? Let's figure it out and get someone to turn in a nomination.

I think "Amazing Grace" or the Mellow Medley could qualify as artistic and different.

For the record, I'm not qualified to nominate either. :(

*Album of the Year (award goes to the artist and producer, if different from the artist
* Song of the Year (award goes to the songwriter)
* Group/Duo/Band of the Year
* Rock/Alternative Album of the Year (award goes to artist and producer, if different from artist)
* Rock/Alternative Song of the Year (awards goes to the songwriter)
* Rock/Alternative Performance, Group/Duo/Band

Album of the Year - only one choice, Farewell
Song of the Year - I'd go with one of the medlies, or nothing
Group/Duo/Band of the Year - lemme think....um...PETRA! :wink: Even if it's recognition for their 33 years, rather than just htis past year
Rock/Alternative Album of the Year - Farewell
Rock/Alternative Song of the Year - one of the medlies
Rock/Alternative Performance - if not for the entire Farewell CD, then I would be partial to the Rock Medley

I am also not eligible to nominate. Can you get on there and post 14 non-sensical posts about Amy Grant or something to up your count?

I'm with brothertom... I think it should be Rock/Alternative Performance: Rock Medley. It's pure raw rock & roll, and it covers the best of two decades' worth of music in less than eight minutes. :)

86 is enough!

Josh,

You do have enough posts...the CMCentral forum says:

Anyone who has at least "50" posts on the Forum is welcome to submit a ballot.

My vote (but I don't qualify either) would be Amazing Grace, Rock Medley or Mellow Medley
