Ultimate Collection 2CD TRACKLIST !!!

Post by Anton » Fri Jan 27, 2006 7:17 am

Well, despite the fact no USA online store seems to have info on the tracklist for the special Ultimate 2CD set, our very own Koorong stores here in Australia seem to have the following 33song list up on their website for this product. Note that the order is not correct as they seem to have posted the tracklist in alphabetical order.

SO here it is - the Ultimate Petra Tracklist

4. Beat The System
5. Beyond Belief

Looks like a pretty impressive list. Odd though that with the exception of Jekyll and Hyde, they only go up to PP2. Not sure why they wouldn't leave a couple of other songs off and put in If I Had To Die For Someone, and Amazing Grace.

I decided to repost the above list in chronological order, just for kicks. In doing this, I'm assuming that none of the Double Take or live versions were used, and that it's the 1977 version of GGRARTY. Although if they do use live and DT versions of certain songs, these would be my votes:
CITAS - It Is Finished (or maybe Graverobber)
DT - Beat The System (or maybe The Coloring Song)
Farewell - Creed (I love the new intro)

1. Lucas McGraw
2. Backslidin' Blues
3. God Gave Rock And Roll To You
4. Why Should The Father Bother
5. The Coloring Song
6. For Annie
7. Praise Ye The Lord
8. More Power To Ya
9. Judas' Kiss
10. Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows
11. Not Of This World
12. Graverobber
13. Beat The System
14. It Is Finished
15. Hollow Eyes
16. Adoni
17. Thankful Heart
18. This Means War
19. He Came, He Saw, He Conquered
20. All Fired Up
21. Mine Field
22. I Love The Lord
23. Creed
24. Beyond Belief
25. Love
26. Prayer
27. Dance
28. Sight Unseen
29. Just Reach Out
30. No Doubt
31. Lord I Lift Your Name On High
32. We Need Jesus
33. Jekyll And Hyde

Looks like if they did do it that way they could have CD1 as Greg X Volz era and CD2 as John Schlitt era

If I remember right, there was a post here that said that Bob was the one picking the songs for this collection. Given that, it is probably natural to have a leaning away from the material when he was not as actively involved. Just a thought. I would have preferred to see at least one song from each album, but I don't think anyone can quibble with the selections made. Well, OK, we can quibble, but it is still a strong collection. :D

What?! Nothing from GOD FIXATION? Not even one single song?

If what BrotherTom is saying is correct (that Bob did not choose anything from that particular album because he was not actively involved), then why didn't Bob choose "St. Augustine's Pears"? That songs has both the music and lyrics written by Bob alone.

I'm beginning to think that GOD FIXATION is the "ugly stepchild no one wants to talk about" when it comes to Petra albums.

To me there is no such thing as an "ultimate Petra collection" of only 33 songs. My idea of an "ultimate Petra collection" is every song from 1981 to 1997, plus 2003. (maybe a few exceptions)

Whenever someone makes a Petra "greatest :?: hits" compilation, they always leave out lots of good stuff.

Yamasaaaki is right..."greatest hits" collections are subjective. But here's what bugs me about this particular collection...

Bob Hartman picked these songs, right? And he's writing the liner notes, right? Yet, the balance of songs is way off. See what I mean:

BEAT THE SYSTEM: 4 songs represented
BEYOND BELIEF: 4 songs represented

But not one song from GOD FIXATION or REVIVAL? I know those particular albums didn't exactly fly off the shelves, sales-wise, but they are still part of Petra's history. By not including any songs from those two albums, Petra seems to be saying, "Hey, don't bother...these are not worth buying".

Just delete one song each from BEAT THE SYSTEM and BEYOND BELIEF and add "St. Augustine's Pears" (from GOD FIXATION) and maybe "Send Revival (Start With Me)" or "The Noise We Make" (from REVIVAL). Viola! An actual "ultimate collection" spanning Petra's entire career.

I can see why he picked certain songs off of "Washes Whiter Than" and "Never Say Die" because of their historical significance to Petra as a group. But I can think of far better songs off of those albums.

I could almost say the same for "No Doubt" and as usual everyone seems to overlook "Wake Up Call". I'm pretty sure it won a Dove award, or at least got nominated... :? :?: :?:

Doh... thanks for pointing those out.

I was actually gonna say something about "Just Reach Out' should at least be on there. That's what I get for brushing over the list so quickly.

Although I really like "Underneath The Blood"

Hello all. Long time reader, first time poster. I am so glad Petra is releasing a greatest hits set as well as a live album/dvd. Great track list but two glaring ommisions in my opinion. I think Enter In and Whole World should have been included. As well, I think the live versions of Judas Kiss and Lord I lift not included on the Farewell cd would be a nice touch instead of the studio versions of these songs. Just a thought.

It'd be kinda nice to see a petra video collection as well. Kinda like the Amy Grant video collection that was released and the SCC one.

Yeah I know... Dream on..

For me, the two biggest omissions are "Hit You Where You Live" and "St. Augustine's Pears."
