Fav petra songs poll #19 (Revival aka PP3)

Post by greenchili » Thu May 11, 2006 2:16 am

With the recent ending of Petra's 33 year music ministry I thought it'd be kind of interesting to start a series of polls on favorite songs. Starting with their first album and working to the last. I figured I'd do an album each week.

So for those interested, get out your petra CD's and start listening. Do it now!! Listening is NOT optional!!! :P

Voting for last weeks album "Double Take" is complete.

Here are the results.

Judas' Kiss [7]
Dance [4]
The Longing [3]
This Means War [3]
Breath In [3]
The Crayola Song [1]
Praying Man [1]
Creed [1]
Beat The System [1]
Beyond Belief [0]
He Came, He Saw [0]
Just Reach Out [0]

The clear winner is "Judas' Kiss" with 7 votes. "Dance" took 2nd with 4 votes and we had a three way tie for 3rd with "This Means War", "Breath In", and "The Longing".

Next up is Revival aka PP3 aka Petra does Sonic Flood. Released in 2001.

A few notes..

1) Say bye bye to Pete Orta and Lonnie Chapin
2) Although not used for the recording, say hello to Brice Bell and Mike Brandenstein the new live band members who were then replaced by Greg Bailey on bass and Quinton Gibson a year later.
3) Say bye by to the elefante brothers
4) Say hello to Jason Halbert and Dwayne Larring
5) ko-ah. He nearly scared me on the promotional DVD (what happened to the hair Rick?)

One song didn't make it into the poll options which are currently limited to 10. It Is..

How Long

Alrighty then! You know what to do! Hop to it!!

Send Revival, Start With Me is absolutely one of the best recordings Petra ever did. I really like this one.

I am putting down Send Revival, Start With Me as my vote. Like the last album DT this recording was very untimely for me and others and I think it showed in sales. I know Petra didn't have alot of options heading their way but what were they thinking? This sound that the producers put together lacks everything that Petra was/is. I was more disappointed with this offering than DT. This album did nothing but put Petra in the grave as far as I'm concerned.

I expect Amazing Grace to get a lot of votes, based largely on the fact that it's on Farewell, and that version rocks. Kinda like how It Is Finished cleaned up on the BTS poll.

That being said, I voted for Jesus Friend of Sinners. Great song to crank. And I love the Duran Duran-esque keyboards (think The Reflex).

I'm with Exe,

It was Sonic Flood with guest appearances by John, Bob & Louie.

More importantly to note, it was the last album by long-term member Louie Weaver. Also, very few songs by Bobby H

I enjoyed Oasis, althogh it wan't a true Petra tune.

I voted for We Want To See Jesus Lifted High. This is a song I thought would have been excellent in concert, but I never saw them do it. I did really like The Noise We Make Too.

Oasis gets my vote, a great song. I actually like this album and thought it was much better than a lot of the "praise" albums put out by many Christian groups or artists. I do wish it would have rocked a bit more.

My vote went to "Send Revival...." although I had hard time choosing between that and "Amazing Grace." I like putting all three Praise albums in my cd player and setting it on "random/shuffle." I've played this a lot, and, it's one of my wife's favorite cd's.

REVIVAL, to me, was like GOD FIXATION when it was first released...I hated it. Didn't even buy a copy.

Then when I saw Petra live on the JEKYLL & HYDE tour, they played "The Noise We Make". Hearing that song made me wanna re-think my position on the album. I borrowed a copy from a friend, and was blown away by how good it was. REVIVAL will be the next Petra CD I buy (have other things to take care of first...you know, silly things like rent, utilities, food, etc.).

Oh...my pick is "Send Revival (Start With Me)".

Listening to this right now and I'd have to say that "Send Revival" and "We Want To See Jesus Lifted High" are probably the ones I like the most. "Amazing Grace" in it's live incarnation is a much better song, but on the LP it has more of a surreal sound.

I just realized that the Revival CD has a misprint on the song order. "Amazing Grace" and "The Prodigal's Son" are reversed.
