Introducing Petra

So, when you are introducing Petra for the first time which song do you start with? For me, it's Jekyll and Hyde.

I think when I introduce someone to Petra, I consider what kind of music they are into.

For example, my wife's gateway song was that one from Double Take that Pete sang. Something about...rain on someone's face or whatever.

To paraphrase Apple, "There's a genre for that."

And she became a fan because of that song? I always considered that the weakest on the album.

I've only done that once recently. I sent a YouTube of Jekyll & Hyde to my sister. Her response? "They're really good and that singer is a HUNK!!!!!" [Translation for you younger people, it means the same thing as he is "HOT!!!!"]

I would use Petra Praise II. If he wants more power in the music the answer is Jekyll and Hyde.

I guess I would say, "Hey, you wanna hear some good music from the 80s? Listen to this."

It would be hard for me to just drop one CD in the persons lap to encapsulate the whole joy ride of Petra.

It is interesting though that this should come up. Some guys at the audio shop grew up listening to Petra and were at a big stadium show here in KC long ago. They were excited while talking about that. They didn't know Petra had quit. They hadn't heard anything since Beyond Belief. They were into all of the 80s and 90s Christian rock, hard rock and metal. It was a good time. I had the opportunity to fill them in on what they missed and what is going on now.

If I had one word of advice for the advertisers of the shows....go SECULAR radio. There is a HUGE former listener base out there that still listens to their old music. But when they listen to radio, it is secular, because Christian radio sucks to them. There is no JackFM for Christians.

"Creed," "This Means War," "Somebody's Gonna Praise His Name," and "Just Reach Out" are some of the ones I usually start with. Sometimes "Judas Kiss" or the CITAS version of "Beat the System."
