The First Petra show of the tour...
Was amazing. They performed at Easterfest in Toowoomba, Australia.
The set list in rough order:
Bema Seat
Angel of Light
Clean
Second Wind
More Power To Ya
Grave Robber
Back To The Rock
All Over Me
Adonai
God Pleaser
It Is Finished
Encore:Judas Kiss
Stand up/Without Him We Can Do Nothing
They played tight as if they had been together for the last 26 years and not their first concert
in that time. Greg's vocals were still great, especially on All Over Me. It was a massive crowd and they totally rocked. They sounded musically the same as last time in 2005 when they played here but just with Greg on vocals.
At the autograph signing I quized Bob about the progress of a follow up album. Thats still the plan but not sure when that will happen. Also I had them sign my entire collection of Petra cd's, with each member signing the albums he appeared on. I had 19 Petra cd sleeves plus the II Guys cd sleeve. Anyway when the II Guys sleeve got to Louie I think he had no idea what is was. He goes "2 Guys from Petra, what's this" with a puzzled look on his face. John Lawry had to explain what it was. It was quite amusing.
I also suggested to Bob that my Ultimate Petra concert Would be for Greg to half a set on vocals and for John to do half a set. Mark thought it was a pretty cool idea. So you never know. He's also a really cool guy to talk to. Anyway what a great day. I'll post some photos in the next few days.

Very cool. I was afraid that their shows would be like the TBN one: just the album in order. It makes sense for them to play All Over Me, It Is Finished and Judas Kiss given that it was an Easter show. I wonder how many other non-BTTR tunes will be at future shows.

I dunno but you can speculate now that these are tracks that are going to be on the next album when it comes to be ...
All Over Me

So they didn't play TBTF or LETHB? somewhat strange.

I would vote for Petra to never play Judas Kiss again....ever. Man, I am so tired of it. The only part I liked about it when it came out were the accusations the band received from stupid preachers that Petra was demonic and trying to control the minds of innocent children everywhere with backward masking. How about some songs that the last versions of Petra did not play all the time?

Judas' Kiss is one of my all time favorites, but the original is by far the best version. I think Bob has never be able to capture that tone of the guitar like what is on the original.
I also think the original Beyond Belief is way better then the live version; I think they ruined it live.

Re: The First Petra show of the tour...
This was o awesome. The guys had a real energy on the stage, and seemed to be really enjoying themselves. Greg has a great stage presence, and I came to have a greater appreciation for him during this concert. Loved the set, and the old gems like ALL OVER ME (which I have always liked). Would have liked to have seen some solo's, but that is really just my desire to see Louie, John, Bob and Mark show off their skills a little bit.
Funny moment at the very end, when it appeared they made a small mistake. Greg called for the band to go back into Stand Up, and it seemed that Greg and the band got slightly out of sync. But this shows that they are playing live, that they are human, and that they are still the greatest band ever.

I hope they record "It is finished". Thats right up there with Bema seat as far as piercing lyrics.

Cause the guitar part on the record is playing backward and that has a bunch to do with it.executioner wrote:Judas' Kiss is one of my all time favorites, but the original is by far the best version. I think Bob has never be able to capture that tone of the guitar like what is on the original.

Man, it's good to hear Greg singing that song again and he sounds fantastic. I'm so glad to see they are singing more than just what's on the CD. I really, really, want to see them live now.

I think the TBN DVD was designed to be broadcast around the world as perfect production to showcase what Petra is now, as management stated before. Now you can hear what they can do with all the improvisations, variations in performance and sopontaneity of a live performance, and they deliver and then some.
