If I were rich you'd have to beat me to it, Epyon (though I wasn't a kid in the '90s.... but that's when I discovered Petra).

Kid, teenager - the same, really (I'm 30 now).

John,
If you read this, please! please! have this record sound more like Jekyll and Hyde instead of the muddy muffled compressed sound of Farewell or Back to the Rock. I saw the Farewell tour in Ft. Wayne and Petra sounded awsome. But when I bought Farewell I was so disappointed because I knew what Petra really sounded like.

Compressed? Jekyll & Hyde is over-compressed.

...maybe you meant audio data compression (like mp3) while I meant audio dynamics compression...

Ok. I just know that every record from 1974 to 2003 sounds good and the rest do not.

JAH is one of three Petra albums that don't and won't ever sound dated(WUC&PP2) being the other two. Bob's lyrical content and gutiar playing is some of his finest work.

I agree. A lot of people have criticized the lyrics of "Perfect World" saying they are weak. One person even said that the line "His creation went astray but never left his sight" didn't make sense. When clearly this is talking about the fall of man and how when we choose not to seek God, He did not take His eyes off us and did not give up on us. I actually love this song.

I actually think Jekyll & Hyde will sound dated because of the over-compression/loudness. But it's hard to tell.

Some of the best, most memorable, historic music has weak lyrics. The Beatles, most Top40, Sinatra, etc.

Perfect World makes perfect sense and it is perfectly true. Creation did go astray but never left His sight. We can't hold lyrics up as scripture. That is not to say that they should not represent perfect scripture. We are talking about music, not scripture, and things have to rhyme, work phonetically, flow, etc. For someone to judge another artists lyrics, calling them weak...that is just silly. Bob is not going to hit everyones meow list all the time. No artist will or can. I happen to like everything about that song, even the mix, minus the over compression.

The whole album has a Led Zepplin feel and anything Zepplin did is as relevant today as it ever was, their sound is timeless.
The loudness of the album fits perfectly with the lyrical content and sound.
I remember Bob saying Peter wanted more guitars and for the album to be upfront. Bob has also said he had more fun making this album than any other album.
The JAH sound is what Petra should have been doing since Lawry left in 1994 and I feel those yrs would not have been what they turned out to be a struggle.

This is why it is important that we, the fans, help shape the sound of this new John Schlitt project with our opinions so that it ends up being a pure and simple rocker without any technilogical "new fangled" craziness that appeared on some of those late 90's Petra records. John should walk into the studio with JAH and WUC in hand, and say "boys, this is what I'm looking for".

Whoa....fans shaping the sound....dangerous. Let John be John and do what John does. There are too many opinions for John to listen to and whenever he has done what other people wanted, it has been less than stellar. Let John do his thing and buy it if you like it. John will not sound like John in another suit.

Exactly! Artists should follow their hearts.

Maybe this was triggered by his new pay-in-advance approach... If you pay someone in advance for something, you often have a say in what you pay for...
