I really liked what they did with "Who's On The Lord's Side" on Unseen Power and some of these could have used that treatment. Watching & hearing Petra do that song live was awesome; They did it as late as the PP2 tour.
I really like this song, and for some reason, I find the choir here working a lot better than the ones in Petra Praise. The choir integration into the song feels more organic, plus the choir voices and overall recording are superior.

I hear what you're saying... I love the album, but female vocalists and rock don't seem to mix... (I can say that because I am a female vocalist who would LOVE to sing rock, but I don't have the voice for it.) There are female vocalists who have done rock sounding albums (Rebecca St. James comes to mind) but I just never like the sound of it for some reason. I'm sure there are some good female rock singers out there, but I can't think of any right now...

"Pethead" is not a title. It's a way of life.

The Wilson sisters rock it well IMO. Pat Benatar did a good job. But those ladies could not start out today in their genre and do it again. That Hail Storm chick is a rocker.

How weird is it that I've never heard of any of these people? Except Jennifer Knapp. I guess i just naturally tend to prefer male vocalists for whatever reason...

Sorry, the only one you have heard of is now out of Christian music, has redefined her Christianity and her version of God to allow her to practice getting it on with females.

Me: I hate that Knapp has taken this turn. I have her greatest hits and used to love her music, but it's hard to listen to her music now that she came out. I do hope that she gets back on the right track.

I have two replies :)

First, I was not that impressed with this album. I like the first song for sure, and I thought it was pretty heavy as a song. It sounded like something last minute though that was put on the album. I liked the song and the guitar solo was pretty neat and sounded different than the other solos that Bob did.

I also liked King of Kings - at least the first part of it. When they stop and then start to speed it up, they lose me. I really do not like any other songs on here. It totally lost me and while I appreciate what Petra did to modernize and rock out praise songs, they lost me.

Second, the whole Jennifer Knapp thing - it really saddens my heart that we have lost another one (hopefully temporarily) to a 'new' way to worship God. They've lost it altogether. It seems they have forgotten the whole part that God does not change, nor does His word or laws. We need to be in deep prayer for those who have lost their way.

Grace,
Harry

I remember buying this record on CD in 1990, this was my second Petra album I purchased on the "new" compact disc format (my first was "On Fire" the previous year). I was not a fan of the praise music concept because it sounded too much like jazzed-up youth group music to me. The reason I didn't buy Amy Grant or Michael W. Smith's stuff was because I wanted rock-and-roll! I was all about the Christian Rock concept that Petra pioneered and that's all I wanted. I viewed this album as a step backwards by the band and was praying that this wasn't a third "re-invention" of the Petra sound.

Now as a middle-aged adult I can love and respect both Praise albums and I will be the odd ball in this poll and vote for King of Kings as my favorite.
