Poll: Unseen Power (1991)

Tough to follow-up Beyond Belief??...

Didja know... the album was mixed by Neil Kernon, who had previously worked with Elton John, Peter Gabriel, and Kansas.

This is a pretty good album, although I tend to lean more towards Beyond Belief or Wake-Up Call as far as this era goes. Still, lots of good/great songs. I voted for "Dance", but "Destiny" is a great rocker.

This one packs a punch. In many ways I like some of these songs better than all other albums. The only catch? That would be Hand on My Heart and Who's on the Lord's side. I do not like either, but I love the style they were going for.

Sight Unseen is my clear favorite on this album. I think it was somewhat(not too much) a letdown from Beyond Belief but there are some really good catchy songs on here. Besides Sight Unseen the most notable ones are Destiny, Who's On The Lord's Side, Ready, Willing, & Able, and Dance. I'm rocker at heart so I really like the metalish sounding drums on this album. I will say production wise this is probably one of the Elefante Brothers best work with Petra.

I'm going to have to think about this one awhile before I vote. It's really tough. For me, this album blows Beyond Belief away. I would put it at the top of the heap with Wake Up Call. The "Brothers Elephants", Neil Kernon mixing, the songwriting, the styles; it all came together on this one.

My first Petra album! Destiny is definitely my favourite.

Ugh, so hard to pick a favorite! I voted for Ready, Willing and Able, since I think it's the best rocker on there... I really like Hand on My Heart though, I used to listen to this every night before I fell asleep as a kid. Oh, and I LOVE I Need to Hear From You. And Hey World has an awesome message.

Like I said, hard to pick a favorite...

"Pethead" is not a title. It's a way of life.

This album was a little too over the top for me. It sounded like they were trying to ride the wave of BB and take it up a notch commercially. It just did not seem to fit.

I was not impressed with the guitar sounds at all; they sounded like chainsaws to me and did not have the bite I knew from On Fire and BB. I believe that there was something lost in this album, although my favorite song ever from Petra is on here and that is In The Likeness of You. I love that one and it still brings tears to my eyes. John Lawry wrote the music for that song and it had a different flow than the rest of the album. In fact, I think that Schlitt's vocals on a ballad have never been better on any other ballad. It just had a different feel for me that has stuck out.

It is not that I do not like the album, but I feel that it is way overproduced. Everything (with the exception of ITLOY), sounds forced and overdone for me.

Grace,
Harry

I'm surprised to see the love for "Sight Unseen". Not because I don't like it, but I didn't know it was that much of a fan favorite. I would've put my money on "Destiny" or "In the Likeness of You" before it, as far as this poll goes.

Sight Unseen has slowly moved up my favorite list over the years. Initialli i was a Ready, Willing, and Able/Destiny fan but Sight Unseen seems to be a better song, for me. It also had one of the better produced videos. If only they could have devised a clever key or guitar solo...

So mny good songs on this one. It was a tough choice because there isn't a song I don't like. Some I wouldn't vote for, but many that I could vote for. I went with I Need To Hear From You. That song needed a little love. When I listened through the album, I was reminded how great I thought that song was back when I first got the album.
I know not everyone agrees, but give me this album, WUC, and J&H, and that's all I need to get me down the road.

I choose Hey World and was pleasantly surprised I wasn't the only one. Although the chorus is a bit repetitive, even after listening to it 100's of times, I still get a lump in my throat as I listen to it.

Probably my next favourite album. It seems like an album end to end of anthems that tend to give me a joyous feeling throughout. After a hard week or a bad day, I can put this cd on to get back to a better place.

Hard to follow the success of Beyond Belief but Unseen Power was a great album that solidified the band's unique sound and vocals. "Dance" is my hands down favorite tune from this album...
