I've no idea. They were both just touring substitutes for the real guy.

Re: David Lichens -vs- Pete Orta
Seeing both multiple times with Petra I would have to say David Lichens was the better overall player. Pete Orta live was not what I like; he was on the move not only physically but at times really just all over the place with his guitar playing, Pete looked out of place on the Petra stage. The area where Pete is stronger is his Christian walk and also his heart of gold that I've been told he has.

I didn't see them live then, but from the videos I've seen I'd agree that Lichens was the better player. I don't know the details of what happened, but I knid of feel bad for the guy. He was in the band for like, a minute!

I don't know much about what went on on a personal level. But I feel quite sure that Schlitt should have listened to the ideas about other musical directions. Given Petra's history after No Doubt I think it's hard to claim that Schlitt's ideas were very succesful. Put in rough terms it was a choice between a new Petra with Lichens/Cooper bringing in new ideas or a poor man's Petra with new members trying to sound like the old members. I know this is roughly put, but I still think there is a point to it. The praise II, double take and so on did not give the impression of a very inventive band.

Petra was always more innovative than the stuff in that era. If they'd have gone in a Dream Theater type direction...

You might think I'm crazy, but stuff like Chameleon and Angel of Light was borderline progressive, IMO. Creed also comes to mind, but that might be due to the awesome John Lawry keyboard in the intro.brent wrote:I would love to hear Bob write prog rock.
