Hand On My Heart: Hate it, don't you?
I'm just gonna see if anyone actually likes the song "Hand On My Heart", from Unseen Power. So far I've never heard much good said about it.
It sounds kinda weird, admittedly, though I thought the album in general to be a rather strange assortment. My father and older brother listen to Petra, and both thought that it was a weird song. So I just want to see if anyone likes this song, or if everyone is of the opinion that it shouldn't have been made.

I hate it! No place on a rock-n-roll album. I didn't vote because my option was not there.

I like it. I'm not a HUGE fan of it, but I like its retro vibe.

It's not bad.
I remember reading that John Schlitt's initial reaction to the song was "No way! I'm a rock singer!" but then the other guys started teasing him saying things like, "Yeah, you're probably right. You don't have that kind of range anyway." So it became a good natured challenge for Schlitt to prove his band mates wrong.

I also think the retro vibe is interesting. It took a little while to get used to John's voice on the chorus, but I really like what he did with the bridge! "I just have to let you know..."

I didn't vote. For the first several years after I heard it, I thought it was a complete joke. Later, I heard that it was a tribute to Smokey Robinson so I get that, I guess. If I could vote for "Indifferent, but never hits my playlist" then I would have voted

I do not like it. The album could have a rock song in its place.
Unseen Power has some great songs like Destiny, Dance and Sign Unseen, but have songs that are in the half of the way, like Ready, Willing an Able, Whos on the Lord Side, I need to hear from you, Secret Weapon and Hey World. They are Ok, but not in top.

It's just OK.... it's one of those tunes that has to grow on you. I do have to hand it to John for his Smokey imitation!

I will just be rocking along with Petra on shuffle, all of a sudden that slow-jam R&B intro to "Hand on My Heart" kicks in, and I'm suddenly like:
