Re: Petra's lyrics that are confusing
Perhaps, in the midst of writing about the earth shaking, the bad news, and the ticking bomb, Bob needed some extra beverages and was upset that the fridge was nearly empty.

Re: Petra's lyrics that are confusing
May hands are shakin'
It's like a bad dream
my tongue is swellin'
it's gettin' harder to speak,
cause I ran down the block.
I ran down the block.
Every lid I'm turning
It's only bad news
This fridge is empty
And we're getting to the end of the Fuze,
The store is down the block,
The store is down the block
Are you ready?
[Chorus]
I ran down the block, anticipation
I ran down the block, a city block
I ran down the block, to the gas station
I ran down the block, a city block
Though the prices blow
And people might be slow
I must have my Fuze!
So I ran down the block!
It's like a bad dream
my tongue is swellin'
it's gettin' harder to speak,
cause I ran down the block.
I ran down the block.
Every lid I'm turning
It's only bad news
This fridge is empty
And we're getting to the end of the Fuze,
The store is down the block,

Re: Petra's lyrics that are confusing
While not necessarily "confusing," I find it takes a moment to adjust my ears to the secular lyrics on GXV's album Xavier especially these lyrics on "The Next Move Is Yours."
There's too much waiting
and not enough loving
for me to be hanging 'round
There's too many ladies
for me to be wasting
my time on your merry go 'round

Re: Petra's lyrics that are confusing
I don't know when that album came out, but I will tell you this, his ex wife really did a number on him and his family. He was manipulated, and beaten down. She was a real piece of crap. So, I think that the lyrics might be about her.

Re: Petra's lyrics that are confusing
Brent, the album came out in 1982, and GXV didn't write the lyrics. The lyrics were penned by the album's producer, Eric Schabacker. For more info and to download this little gem, visit: http://www.trodland.com/?page_id=17

Yeah he says about the same thing about all 3 of his ex wifes; kind of weird that the problems are always one sided according to him.

Wow, Brent and exe. Those are unfriendly posts. Let's keep private stuff private, shall we?
And like dihigo pointed out, the lyrics aren't even written by GXV and were recorded in 1982.
Dihigo, those files on trodland's site were actually made from my personal copy. Back when I found this album I got in touch with Eric through Becky Volz and he graciously gave us permission to host the digital files on trodland's site.

Re: Petra's lyrics that are confusing
Most of us probably don't know these folks personally, and don't know their circumstances, so I agree, it's probably better not to discuss someone's marriage(s) on the Internet. It does take more than one person to contribute to whatever might lead to a divorce, even if one person happens to contribute more than another. Of course it's a sad thing, but it's not less so if they don't happen to get media attention. Let's withhold judgment shall we?
We all have at least the capacity to behave badly, even if we opt not to act on it. I think that's what it boils down to: Life is a series of choices, and we can choose to either do the right thing and trust God or go our own way...And there are consequences when we decide to go our own way. You do reap what you sow, even if it doesn't happen right away or it's not in the way you might think. Just sayin'.
Don't get me wrong; I don't condone divorce. I get the idea that it does say something if someone is divorced multiple times (and that's no matter who it is). I think the only reasons divorce should be considered is if someone has cheated or someone is being abused and it's get out or die. The fact is though, that won't always be the case, and both people have to want to stay married. As someone (Brent I think) pointed out, there are some marriages that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Hey, I am not saying anything he hasn't said, and what others who have had experience with her, from church conferences, etc, know is truth. She was a piece of work. I spoke to him right after he got out and then again a couple of years later when he was doing vocals for me. As God is my witness, the man was changed. He was a completely different guy. He sounded healthier...liberated.3
Re: the record. I have never heard that record, so it doesn't surprise me it is older, now that I think about it. There is another secular album he was working on with a stud guitarist from Florida (IIRC). He said it was more in line with Sammy Hagar vocally. He had the songs on DAT and I almost had him convinced to give me a listen. He wanted to find someone to put it out and give him the publishing, which I didn't care about. I just wanted to hear it and get it out if we liked it. But...it never happened.
There is nothing wrong with these types of records IMO.

Re: Petra's lyrics that are confusing
Brent is right re: Barbara Volz - now Barbara Brown. I won't go into it all, but everything Brent said is true.
http://www.barbarabrown.com/ and http://barbarasworld.com/
I read her book... http://www.amazon.com/God-We-Are-Not/dp/1929921004-- very strange, stories of her other husband dying, praying over him to come back to life for days while he was dead in their house, being taken up on charges for it... just plain weird.
I remember GXV talking about Xavier - but never knew it was available anywhere. Glad to finally be able to hear it.
He's single again?
"There is another secular album he was working on with a stud guitarist from Florida (IIRC)"
YES, I remember him talking about that! He was working on it when Barb came into the picture, who convinced him that he should not be doing secular-type music, and the project was pitched - along with his friends and family. I didn't know it still existed. So it never got into your hands, Brent? That's too bad.
