Re: CPR
Dream On was a very important song for Steven Tyler. He knew that he had something special with it and that it was the key to launching the band. Aerosmith were real nobody's that Columbia Records didn't see much potential in. They were pouring money and production into Bruce Springsteen and giving Aerosmith the scraps.
Tyler was not confident in his voice. He didn't feel it sounded manly enough, so when it came time to sing in the studio, he changed it to sound more macho--a real screw up (and it sounds really weird if you've never heard it before--just listen any other song from their debut album). However, Dream On was so important to him that he sucked it up and sang it in his natural voice.
When I heard GXV's version, I thought that it was pretty cool. However, it's hard to have the same connection to it when you've enjoyed the original for years.

Re: CPR
I like the selection for the most part. NOTW & Hollow Eyes could have been left out; i'm hoping the last 2 tracks are real rockers.dihigo wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2017 7:24 amSo far, 8 of the 10 promised tracks have been previewed online.Of the 2 tracks left, which classic songs are you most hoping to see CPR cover?

FORGIVE! FORGET! & LET GO!
Re: CPR
The chorous sounds a lot like "it is finished". The final part of it also sounds a bit like the ending of the chorus of "this means war". Very typical Petra (Bob) melody phrase. Very melodic, takes away a bit of the rock feel to it and did not fit in the grunge age or the sound they had on jeckyll and hyde (in my opinion).

Re: CPR
I would have loved to have seen them five times with Greg. It was hard enough convincing my parents to let me buy a cassette tape at the time. Considering the band would have likely folded in the early 80's without him, it's hard to read something like this and not be tempted to fuel a fire. He sure was popular when I was growing up. But, I have constrained myself as much as possible.

Yeah but didn't numerous other bands have similar performances from members?
Maybe Greg just needs to take lessons from Steve Taylor..

Re: CPR
It's very quiet around here. Does this CPR thread need a cardio pulmonary resuscitation? According to Greg's most recent Facebook post, mixing begins mid-June. Wasn't this album supposed to drop back in March???

Re: CPR
To be honest, I'm not that excited about this project. Classic Petra was fun for what it was, but I want new music, not another remake album.
