Really? . .

I thought that opening wail was great! Classic John Schlitt.... and it just says "Hey yeah I'm the new guy but check out my range" lol!

John's range is amazing (most singers wouldnt touch a song like Send Revival for example) .. and I've seen him do it live flawlessly. Also, John just has a very consistent "gutsy" quality to his voice on the high and low notes that gave Petra a more edgy/heavy sound which was needed as music was changing towards this sound.

I can see it being hard for the band to adjust to singing harmonies with John as he does a lot of little improv stuff - but I thought this performance was fantastic!

John has an excellent high range and as he's gotten older he has developed a bit more of a low range, but that really wasn't the case in the past. But overall, I have to disagree. John's voice just wasn't built for depth of range. That doesn't mean he's not a great singer, he is, but not everybody can do everything. Greg for example would have never fit in with the harder edged stuff they began to do with On Fire. Music like that needs a vocalist who can blast it out and that is exactly what John was built for. I know there is a deep love for John on this board and Greg is kind of yesterdays news, but he was also a great singer and we don't have to try and make John out to be Superman. Part of the musical greatness we find in Petra is the fact that they were able to completely change their style to fit the talents of a different kind of singer when the need arose. As a result they were great with Greg and they were great with John. There are not a whole lot of bands out there who could do that.

That is for sure! Several secular bands folded after such a drastic change while others that didn't should have. We were blessed with two Petras, both with excellent songs that stand the test of time.

ookay...

I don't have anything to trade, and really wanted to hear the 2 concerts I mentioned. I didn't mean anything underhanded by it.

Didn't mean to make you mad.

Problem with 86 show?

Post by shaabyi » Tue Dec 11, 2007 7:26 am

Is anyone else having a problem with the 86 show? I downloaded the video and mp3 and both files cut off after Judas Kiss even though they both show a length of 82 minutes. Anyone else having this issue?

I don't think this is an issue with the online video file. It plays perfect on my site. The song Judas Kiss turns into a keyboard solo at the end, and everything plays smooth. Try another video/mediaplayer...and see if it helps...

Totally Amazing! What is really amazing is the set list. Almost nothing remains from the Beat the System Tour except the Mellow Medley and John Lawry's stuff. The entire finale is the Back to the Street Tour ending. Hearing John sing Angel of Light just about caused me to have a heart attack. I wish they had kept many of these songs for the full Back to the Street Tour.

Anyway, totally awesome. I am a happy man! The only thing left to make my life complete would be something from the Wake Up Call tour and if John had ever sang God Gave Rock and Roll To You. I will keep dreaming.

Hi Dave! Good to see you here again!

You know, you guys have something down there that I really want!

That would be the video of John singing O Holy Night at your show... what would it take for me to get that? I'm told it was the most beautiful thing...

Hey Sue! How are You?

Do we have that? I think Pastor Ken's daughter still has most of the video from that weekend. I only took the worship band stuff. I will ask her next time I see her. I forgot about O Holy Night. It is hard to believe that was a year ago.

Yes, I meant to say Pastor Ken's daughter - not you personally. What a nice Christmas present to the Petheads if you could get that in some form to me... yes, please ask!

I know... how time passes SO quickly. A year ago since our NYEve concert; it was such a special time. It really saddens me that John & Bob are not doing anything this New Year's Eve.........
